This February, amidst the lingering chill of winter, our real estate team embarked on a heartwarming mission to bring solace and warmth to those enduring unimaginably difficult times.
On February 7, 2024, we had the privilege of hosting a unique volunteer event at Old National Bank. Gift of Life Michigan is a beacon of hope, a lifeline for many awaiting life-saving transplants. Behind every donor’s story is a tapestry of love, loss, and legacy. Gift of Life Michigan holds a special place in our hearts for its compassionate commitment to organ and tissue donation. Together, we aimed to weave threads of comfort and care into the lives of donor families, offering a tangible symbol of our support and empathy: handmade fleece blankets.
Our team and many friendly faces from the community came together at Old National Bank, ready to make something special. We had piles of soft, colorful fleece fabric ready to be turned into warm blankets. Each piece of fabric was carefully picked to make each blanket unique, just like the memories of the people we wanted to honor.
Making these blankets was simple but very meaningful. We cut fringes along the edges of the fleece and tied them together. This wasn’t just about making blankets; it was about putting our thoughts and good wishes into something that could bring a bit of comfort to families going through a hard time. While we worked, we shared stories and laughs, reminding us how important it is to support each other.
Not everyone could join us in person, but their support was felt strongly. Some people generously donated money to buy the fleece and other materials we needed for the blankets. Others made blankets on their own and brought them to our event location, showing their support in their own special way.
By the end of the day, we had a big collection of cozy blankets, each one representing a hug from us to the recipient. We were reminded of how a small act of kindness, like making a blanket, can mean the world to someone going through a difficult time.
We hope these blankets give a bit of comfort and a feeling of support to the families. We also want to say a big thank you to Gift of Life Michigan for letting us be a part of their mission. This event showed us all how coming together to help can create something beautiful and meaningful.
